The best time to travel to different countries within Africa varies based on a combination of factors, including the country’s location, climate, and the specific activities or experiences you’re seeking. Here’s a general overview of the best times to visit various countries in Africa:
Kenya: July to October (dry season) for wildlife safaris, especially the Great Migration in Maasai Mara. December to February for birdwatching and beach vacations on the Kenyan coast.
Tanzania: June to October (dry season) for the Great Migration in Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. January to February for calving season in the southern Serengeti.
South Africa: May to September (winter) is best for safaris in Kruger National Park. Cape Town is best enjoyed during the shoulder season (March to May and September to November) for wildlife safaris or December to March (Summer) to enjoy sunny beach weather. Driving South Africa’s famed Garden Route is suitable in any season; though there is always a chance of rain, it’s never enough to discourage a road trip – winter is the best time to see whales, winter and spring for the wildflowers, summer for the beaches, and fall for hiking.
Zimbabwe and Zambia: May to October (dry season) is prime time for safari’s. Birdwatching is best from November to April (wet season) and this is also when Victoria Falls is most dramatic.
Namibia: May to September (dry season) for wildlife viewing in Etosha National Park and desert adventures in Sossusvlei.
Botswana: May to October (dry season) for wildlife safaris in the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. November to April for birdwatching and the green season, but some areas may be inaccessible due to flooding.
