We began our journey at Avani+ Fares a relatively new addition to the Maldives (opened just two years ago) and already making waves for its fresh energy. From there, we moved to Vakkaru Maldives and everything shifted. If Avani+ was vibrant and fun, Vakkaru was refined and transcendent. This is a resort that radiates polish without ever losing warmth. The villas are stunning, the lagoon glows with an otherworldly blue, and the overwater spa and gym elevate wellness to a whole new level. What lingered most though, was the impeccable service, the way staff connect with genuine warmth and humour. Every detail considered. Every moment intentional. Our final stop was Amilla Maldives, and here, the trip took on a soulful, almost nurturing tone. Amilla has heart. You can feel it. Across these three islands, what struck me was not just the diversity of experience, but the deeply emotional layers of the Maldives itself.

One afternoon at Avani+, we waved a flag from our sun-drenched overwater terrace, laughing as a dhoni delivered cocktails just as the sky began to blush with sunset.

The next evening at Vakkaru, the mood shifted – lanterns flickered on the sand, the ocean glistened gold, and a duo of singers serenaded us with harmonies so beautiful they seemed to still time.

And then, a few days later at Amilla, we were swimming in Hanifaru Bay, surrounded by dozens of manta rays – playful, almost flirtatious in their movements as they spiralled and glided around us, brushing close in a performance that felt both humbling and surreal. It was thrilling, yet had its own quiet power. Peaceful. Profound.

The Maldives is not one island. It’s hundreds. And every island has its own identity – its own tone, style, and rhythm. From castaway-chic to ultra-luxe, family-focused to wellness retreats, each property offers something distinct.
